Is it all just wasted time?

I was looking for a specific post on Instagram just now, it's a very old picture, which meant scrolling all the way down, possibly to the end of the gallery. Not sure, never made it there. It felt like…browsing through crumbled cities when a civilisation had fallen. I know I'm being dramatic but really…All the life. All the good times. All the things I (we) used to have and take for granted. The little things that seemed so unimportant at times, the big things we loved and cherished. I just don't understand how we could let this collective insanity take it all away. Strip us down to just…''existing''. No longer living just wasting time, wasting space, waiting. I for sure can't even remember what feeling alive really feels like. I'm breathing so I must be right? But this constant feeling of numbness of anxiety of feeling unsettled…I don't know. Emotions too hard to place I suppose.

Do you guys know that line in that song by the Bad Wolves '''Cause baby we don't work no more, and I don't wanna hurt no more''? I love that song. Painfully beautiful and I know it's supposed to be romantic. Or dead romance kinda song. Broken hearted and all that. Trust me, I know, I've been there once too many times but lately I feel like it can be applied to life in general. I really feel like this isn't working anymore and I don't want to hurt no more.  How do you go on from this point, how do you ''exhume'' the world? I'm out of ideas. And out of courage. And desire. And will. And emotions. I am just…

Sigh. How about a few words on one of my favourite bands (Skid Row – super underrated band) instead? I did a review of the album in the past, short and not nearly as thought through as the reviews are these days but feel free to look it up if you want. So no album review but a few words on my favourite song on this record. It's not the album titled song, nor ''Monkey business''. I actually love ''Psycho love'' and ''In a darkened room'' but my absolute favourite hands down is ''Wasted time''. It's been overplayed and raping my neighbors ears (sorry, not sorry guys), but not on vinyl tho, my copy is an unplayed, still factory sealed (well kinda, it's cut on the side) and I can't bring myself into playing it, though I know it must sound amazing. I literally, no joke, saw one for sale the other day for 1000 euros. Holy Cannoli that's a nice chunk of money.

Anyways, I'll go as far as saying that Wasted time is Skid Row's best song. Literally. It is essentially  a power ballad sure but it is completely different as say ''I remember you'', it's much darker which makes sense since it talks about the stuggles and damages of addiction. Did you know though that Sebastian wrote this song for / about Steven Adler? Steve had a really bad heroin addiction that affected his preformance which essentially got him fired from Guns N' Roses and he actually struggled with it for most of his life. He's doing great now though, clean and sober and if I had like 50 cents for every time I bitch and complain how he HAS to come back to GN'R, I'd have enough money to pay for a private GN'R gig. Just saying.

Y'all seen the music video right? It's obvious from there that it's about drugs, but video aside, if you listen to the lyrics; ''you said you'd never let me down, but the horse stampedes and rages'', horse is a popular name for heroin. As well as white nurse, black eagle, brown sugar…I don't love the thematics don't get me wrong, it literally physically hurts me thinking of everything Adler went through but I love how the song is created, music absolutelly brilliant and the lyrics that start with something lighter like cannabis and then moves slowly onto harder drugs like extasy and cocaine and then it ends with heroin. Just like an addict would. Starts with something innocent till things start never being enough and it gets out of control. The song ends with this gently sung line ''I thought you'd never let it get this far''. Brilliant. I mean I read Sebastian's book…I am honestly amazed how some of these boys are still alive and immensely grateful that they are.

The preformance alone is one of Sebastians best preformances ever. He is an incredible vocalist and here his entire range and talent shines through. And kicking him out of the band was the dumbest thing the band did. Speaking of dumb….Dave Sabo…sigh. He literally co wrote Wasted time and hated it! Wtf? He called the song ''the biggest piece of shit we ever recorded''. And I still for the life of me don't get it. Was he high, drunk or stupid or all of the above? Is it a musicians disease to hate the better songs and like the dumb ones? Just wondering because he's not the first one *cough Richie Sambora – Living on a prayer cough* and surely not the last.

Another quick cute story then I'll stop rambling and decide which book review you're getting on Friday. I've actually been getting through my huge ''to be read'' stacks and read a couple books.

So Wasted time was released also on a 7' and 12' single, side B containing ''Get the fuck out'' which was recorded live at Wembley. Can we pause here for a moment? While I salivate over shows I never saw because I wasn't even alive then, Queen at Wembley, GN'R Use your illusion tour…I honestly wish to see a show at Wembley once. Preferably The Stones.  Now this song on the single version contains a long freaking speach by Sebastian that is far more interesting than the song. Apparently the band was handed a letter that specifically forbade them to play ''Get the fuck out''. Lol at the genius writing that letter. What did you think it will happen? Like for real? Did you expect the band to roll over and obey? Come on.

Now I'll write down the speech because I just find it freaking hysterical but of course reading it and listening to it is not the same so go check it out (https://youtu.be/eTtQQs_VRcs).

''Well listen man, I'm gonna do somethin' right now. There's a, a little thing that I feel like it's my duty to tell you this shit here London ok. You know there's a counsel here in your town who tries to tell rock bands what they can and cannot do on stage, did you know that? Now we received a letter here, I thought we were in fuckin' Russia or somethin' man. I'm gonna read this to ya, do you wanna hear it? It says right here, ''You'll be aware that there is a great concern being shown by the counsel that there may be abusive language used during the Skid Row show at Wembley'' it goes on to say here ''we have great concern regarding the preformance of Guns N' Roses and Skid Row and the press reporting of shows in America'' alright. And it says here…wait a minute who the fuck is this counsel anyways, do you people know? This is the best part right here, I really love this part, it says ''the song Get the fuck out cannot be included in the set unless the words are ALTERED, motherfucker'' now, and it says here, hang on, it says here that they're gonna stop the show because they don't like the word ''FUCK'' and you're not allowed to hear it! Now the way I see it, the way I fuckin' see it, is that each one of you people paid a bunch of fuckin' money to see a rock n' roll show is that right?! So we wouldn't want to offend anybody but I just think that it's time to say to these people, Get the fuck out man. What do you wanna say?''

And the crowd started chanting Get the fuck out and the song was preformed in it's original form. Lol. But seriously does anyone know who the fuck is the counsel? The hell is that about? Bunch of old frustrated fucks by the looks of it…either way, I'll go cuddle my vinyl because things sure AF can't get any worse, cheers guys.

Tell me when a kiss of love becomes a lie, that bears the scar of sin too deep to hide behind, this fear of running unto you, please let there be light In a darkened room.

Today I just really want to share something. Some advice. There are some things that you should never ever never say to an artist. I personally listen to these all the time and they anger me so much I can hardly put it into words...
“Do a drawing for me! Or draw me!”
Uh excuse me have you heard of commissions? How about a payment? This is taking time, money and not to mention years of practice.
''Why should I pay you it's just a drawing.''
For real? This is just beyond offensive! If it's just a drawing then fucking do it yourself.
''You're so lucky you were given this talent.''
Really? Fucking really? What do you think a fairy god mother sprinkled me with fairy dust and I was given the ''gift''? Uh no. I got no gift, I am where I am because I started drawing since before I started kindergarden and haven't stopped since. Dedication and hard work that's what it is not magic.
“That’s a hobby not a job. Or okay that's great but what is your real job?”
A fucking porn star. How come art isn't a real job? Are digital artists not making every single visual thing you see on a daily basis possible for you? How about tattoo artists? Photographers that take pictures of your wedding day or whatever else? That aint art or what? Fuck you!
''I wish I had so much time to do nothing like you do.''
Oh my god! I apologize if I chose to spend my time doing something else then stuffing my hands down my pants or killing my brain cells with reality shows. Really. How stupid of me to be doing that.
''This is such a waste of time you know.''
This one makes me want to chop heads. If something I love and something I'm good at is wasting time then what isn't?
''You should draw this instead or you should draw this and this...''
No I fucking shouldn't. I draw what I want to draw. I am not here to please the ignorant. I draw what I like. Art is expressing yourself and it's not much of an expression if you're painting by numbers.
''You should give some of your works for free so you get more attention from people.''
Are you fucking kidding me?! That is excatly why artist are struggling! Why free? Why wouldn't people who pay you fairly spread the word for you??? Here's an idea why don't you volunteer some extra hours in your job or volunteer to something free to ''gain followers for your boss''? Maybe you'll get more ''attention'' then.
''Aren't you done by now?''
Do people asume you spit on a canvas and it's done? Maybe I'd be done sooner if you'd stop fucking bothering me?
''This is not art''
Just like beauty is in the eye of the beholder art is subjective to a person. So excuse you what is art is a matter of opinion. I find art and inspiration in things that are completly everyday and common so please. Shut it.
''You need to change this and this and this...''
No I don't. What I do need though is for people like you to shut your dumb mouth and stop spitting out opinions I never wanted in the first place.
''Photography is not art!''
ARE.YOU.FUCKING.KIDDING.ME?!
''Can I have - borrow some of your pencils and tools?''
Sure, can I have fifty thousand dollars? Just because...
''Can I get a lower price?''
I'm sorry but do you go to the butchers or a clothing store and bargain the price? Like for real?
And my personal favorite;
''I hear all artists are either strange or always moody or bitchy.''
And yet you still wonder why? I can't stress this enough how much these things piss me off. People are fucking stupid I get it. But I feel so disrespected. People just make demands and act all offended when I ask them to pay for what they want. And I can't be offended when you just presume I'm supposed to do it for free? Do you have any idea, any idea in the slightest how much money I spend on pencils, color pencils, special erasers, shading tools, sharpeners, pens, and how many fucking hours of my free time? Do you have an idea? No? I know you don't. What brought this on? Another idiot that wanted a portrait, was dead set on having one but as soon as I told him he's going to have to wait a month because obviously I have other things to do as well, he got all rude and mean saying I need to do it right away like I'm a fucking machine or some shit only here to please the people. Which of course doesn't even matter because as soon as I told him he has to pay for it he suddenly realized he doesn't even want a drawing. Because obviously art should be free and obviously artists should be slaves to humanity or some shit. Okay...I'm so mad. Which is excatly why I put on this baby and played it as loud as I possibly can, trying to rid myself of idiotism that surrounds me...
Fuck I love Skid Row so much. They are absolutely amazing. Like every lyric, every vocal, every guitar riff. Amazing. I honestly believe that next to Guns n' Roses Skid Row are the other best band of the 80's. Fight me on this I dare you but there is no singer with vocals like Sebastian. There just isn't. He is absolutely perfect, the voice is so breathtaking, emotional, clear and oh so powerful. And the songs yet heavy are so melodic and the solos. Amazing. I hear people wrote them off for being too ''soft'' after listening to their debut album. Fucking idiots is all I have to say, Slave to the grind has this special edge and deserves a chance at least if nothing else, though not loving it once you put it on is impossible. This album for me is every bit as legendary and amazing as Appetite is, it's like the moment they came to the scene, created their own world. A fucking amazing rock n roll world. Parting from the easy, softer, generic metal they did in the debut. Don't get me wrong still a great album but this...this is different. I have a confession, I was always a little *okay fine it wasn't just a little* in love with Sebastian, that hair, that style and that voice, holy hell. But when I heard In a darkened room for the first time that's when all hell broke loose, I know I'm done for, I knew this is forever. No matter what the hell is going on this song makes it all okay. No matter how fucked up the day may be how sad, depressed or tortured I may be, that song makes it alright. What's also so amazing on this album is that here everything was alright, they were working together as band and you can see different styles and types formed together into their music. Pretty damn amazing. Slave to the grind reached number one on the Billboard 200, selling over 130,000 copies in the first week it came out. There is no denying that this was one of the best albums in this genre and in general time period. And honestly it's so underrated it's making me want to cry. This album is raw, agressive, totally into your face, nothing like the polished sound Bon Jovi have. I mean it starts with a fiery bang of the Monkey business which is one of my faves *I have a lot of favorite songs yes*. Then you got Living on a chain gang and Riot act and even Mudkicker, which go slightly political proving that hair metal, heavy metal isn't just long hair and leather but so much more. And quite honestly In a darkened room and Wasted time as ballads or power ballads if you will have more soul more character then anything simillar released at the same time. Which brings us to something that's still tearing my heart apart today. They had every chance to be one of the biggest rock bands *same as Guns n' roses* and we all know how that ended. I don't know what Bach and Bolan had, all I know is that if a split really was all around wheter they were or weren't ''too big'' to be an opening band for Kiss that's bloody fucking stupid. And ruining a perfect band over something so petty...breaks my heart. Either way I might be taking sides yes, they are all amazing musicians but everything after Bach left? No thanks. I just adore his voice and Skid Row without that voice is just not the same. That being said, please pick up this album, play it loud and enjoy it, it is absolutely flawless. Might chase away some monday blues. Take care guys, stay safe, see you on friday, asuming I live, got an annoying week in front of me.

Big Guns

I know I've already said too much today but I'm gonna share a favorite record anyways.
This week it's going to be my second favorite one...
I was lucky I found it online on eBay, from a man in Germany, in a condition that makes me wonder if anyone ever even listened to it and at a really low price. Which lately is a miracle because the prices on vinyls are insane. And let me tell you something. I am completly and totally obsessed with it. All of the songs on this record are absolutely and totally perfect. So much more on vinyl. I had a CD before but the sound quality doesn't come near a good old vinyl. This album is a classic and belongs into every single music collection. I don't even care if you're not into metal, you don't have to be to appreciate this music. Bach's voice is absolutely flawless and he really makes these songs alive. It's easy to see why Skid Row stood out in the crowd of all those bands that would come and go at the time. I love that the songs don't all sound the same and there is no ''filler'' on this record, you can expect to enjoy and love every single song. I love how they could start out a song nice & slow, almost innocent, and then in a matter of a second, turn it into magnificent bombastic heavy metal sound. Like 18 and life. I love the honest truth of Youth gone wild and Can't stand the heartache. And don't even get me started on those vocals....have you noticed how many heavy metal singers actually have these high pitched screechy voices while Sebastian's voice remains just as perfect when he does any high note or any ''heavy metal screech''. I think he doesn't get enough credit and I think he is one of the greatest rock 'n' roll singers of all time. Not to mention Snake because that solo on Here I am is absolutely amazing. The guys are amazing musicians and this record is just that, an amazing record with heart and soul and it makes my heart hurt knowing they couldn't keep it together. Not saying the new singer is bad but honestly he is no Sebastian Bach. I'm sorry but that's just what it is. Favorite song? Hm. Too hard to pick with the entire albums sounding the way it sounds but I think it's going to have to be Big guns. It was the first song I ever heard and I was completly totally blown away. Love at first sight? Or should I say love at first note or something? Either way it was love. And I am positive if you'd get it you'd love it too because it is absolutely amazing and well worth your money.

Sing a sad song and you'll be alright.

Do you guys have a certain song that you connect with a memory? A good one or a bad one? Or a song that makes you happy? Or maybe sad? A song that no matter how many times you hear it, you will never have enough of? Music is amazing like that isn't it? How a melody can be a memory...how lyrics can provide a whole new outlook on life. How a certain band can give you a new perspective or a new meaning, all you gotta do is listen. John Lennon's Imagine is like that for me. It really makes you realize how little all your petty problems really are. And All time low's last album Future hearts was like that for me. All the lyrics just kinda fit you know? That's my favorite part actually, not the singles that the bands release prior to the album but actually having that album, putting it on for the first time and listen from start to finish, without skipping songs. Nikki Sixx said something about that once, that you should listen an entire record because if not you miss out on other songs that are even better then the singles. And he was right, for some reason I always find myself enjoying the ones that didn't make it as a single. I don't know why, it's just how it is. But that's not the point of today's post...Today I'm going to share one of my playlists with you. A playlist that fits the current mood. Or better yet this weeks mood, I feel like I was through hell and back the past couple of days and there's nothing that would comfort me more then my music. These are the songs I listen to when I'm at my worst. Sad. Lonely. Depressed. They're not excatly what you call a ''happy song'' but for some reason they make me feel a lot better.
