Tailgate town

I know I promised Slovenia on this weeks post. And it will be I promise, but before I go there, I realised there's something I forgot last week, when writing about Italy. It's not exactly Venice, it's more Trieste but still. I've never been to Trieste either would you believe? I mean that's pretty much in Slovenia (should be ours if you ask me – sorry not sorry) and I've never been. Idk why, guess it never had the appeal. It's a nice town, quite big, bigger than I expected but I suppose if you don't have a specific business to attend there, what's the point really?

I just stopped in Trieste this year because we were on the way to ''Castello di Miramare'', Spanish for ''Ocean view'' or better ''looking at the ocean''. Mira – look, mare – ocean. Miramare is a castle. And not just a castle but A CASTLE. It's beyond beautiful, the ocean view quite literally from every room, my god it's nothing if not absolutely gorgeous. And the castle itself, pure architectural beauty. I've seen a lot of castles, but I don't think any of them can compare. It was designed by Carl Junker and build between 1856 and 1860, it was supposed to have 3 stories but due to lack of money the last story wasn't built. Not like it's lacking anything, if you ask me the damn thing is perfect as is.

It's a waste though if you ask me, I don't think anyone lives in the castle today. Why can't someone like me have it I wonder. I mean I would give it all the love and attention. Yes to a building. Don't argue with me, if you'd seen it in person you'd understand. I would sell my soul for the view alone, nevermind the castle itself. It's a museum today, you can see private rooms of Maximillian and his wife on the ground floor. Ferdinand Maximillian (Franz Josephs younger brother) was a sea captain, a comander of the Austrian navy, so part of the rooms on that ground level are made by the looks of the Austrian ship ''SMS Novara''. It's crazy and kinda strange and kinda perfect, it's like a ship in a castle. Wild. You have more lavish, luxury rooms on the first floor meant for guests. I don't know about the second one though. Maybe there are people living in the castle after all. Someone had to inherit it. Imagine that, a will in which you get THAT. One can dream right?

The castle comes with a 22 hectares huge park. ''Parco Miramare'' it's ridiculous to be honest. Just like the castle is over the top so is this park. Full of all kinds of rare and tropical plants which of course will grow in Italy since lately Italy is completely tropically hot in the middle of September. These are actually the plants that Maximillian brought back from his travels and planted in the park. Which kinda makes the entire park even cooler. I mean, I collect Hard rock cafe charms, but that's not nearly as cool as pointing at a palm tree from your mansion going ''oh yeah, I brought that one from South Africa''.

Enjoy my favourite pictures from the site below, all shot with a Nikon D7200. Obsessed with that thing. Completely and utterly obsessed.

Now back to Slovenia. I told you last week it's even more beautiful than Italy. Well hardly true, Italy is amazing. But we are not far behind. Slovenia is absolutely beautiful. I always say though there's only two bearable spots in this country. One the view from the castle in my hometown and the second the sea side. We don't have much of a coast line but as much as we have is beyond perfect. Crystal clear water, beautiful views, and the nicest people you could find. Really, honest to god, people at the sea side, like they're not ours. So kind, so sweet, so helpfull, all seem happy to get up in the morning and do their jobs even if crappy ones. It's amazing. Though it's not like I don't understand, waking up with an ocean breeze, sunshine and sea side view every day would most likely make me about 60% happier than I am. Which tbh, is quite a lot. I don't know when this desire first happened. Years ago I believe, when we used to spend all summers and long weekends at the seaside, but I always wanted to live there. A tiny house in a Mediterranean style with lavender in the garden and a balcony looking at the sea. Heaven right there. Impossible heaven but as I said above, one can dream.

I haven't been in the Slovenian sea side in a long time, sure quick weekends, which were more like drive through than anything. This was the first time in a while staying for more than a week. I guess Corona, and our government giving us traveling vouchers (dumbest thing on the planet but given that taxpayer money will pay for them whether you go or not…) made us all vacation close to home. I was disappointed because well, I wanted Berlin for 12 years and this year was the year when everything alligned and we could go but then corona said ''e boga mi nečeš'' or if I translate ''fuck no''. But honestly, I wasn't that disappoined in the end of the day. As I said this part of my home is absolutely beautiful, I got to explore the amazing views, marine life in museums and in the ocean, went on a boat dolphin watching (not that we saw any), got to spend a tiny ammount of time in Trieste drinking the best Aperol (only Italians do it right), got to swim a lot, I know I don't look like it but actually I'm part mermaid, I love swimming and I love the ocean. And not to mention Venice. All in all, there is literally nothing to complain about, I feel blessed to even be able to go on vacation.

Our hotel was based in Koper or as we call it in Italian Capodistria. It's a cool name because this region is called ''Istra'' or Slovenian Istra. And Koper is at the very top, so the name Capodistria came from ''Capo d'Istria'' – ''Top of Istra''. Brilliant aint it? It's a pretty town, more industrial than the rest, we got the huge port ''Luka Koper'' which I believe is part of the reason we're in Europe in the first place, it's the perfect window to the sea side from Europe and a point of dispute all the time, seems like everyone wants the port. But like, thank god, it remains the one thing that's not (yet) for sale since we already sold out pretty much the entire country. Despite it being slightly more industrial and the port and huge cranes really ruin the esthetics of the city, don't get me wrong it's a beautiful city. The marina with all the pretty sailboats, the ocean side walking paths, the very city center with the ''Tito square'', the beautiful and huge national park with all the wild life. Amazing. One could do with a few less shopping malls but okay, I suppose modern tourism needs that too and I should probably be quiet since I spent quite some money in it. Mostly T shirts. Shut up okay, I know I have a problem, me and my thousand plus shirts that I have no where left to put.

Our sea side being as small as it is meaning you can jump from city to city easily. It's like  a 5 to 10 minute drive from Koper to Portorose to Piran and Lucia and Isola. Which brings us to Piran / Pirano. There is nothing and I do mean nothing more beautiful on this planet then this city is. It's a city that was ''build on salt'' as they love to say. There's a huge salt marsh nearby, producing only the best ( and world famous in so many kitchens ) salt, called the ''salt flower''. They say that the salt is the ocean that couldn't go back into the sky and I find that so awfully poetic and romantic for some reason, maybe my deeply rooted love for the ocean and all things related. The salt of course is amazing on it's own. Nothing like your regular table salt at all. I mean one would think salt is salt but believe me it really isn't. Piran is located at the very end of the coast line, it's a cape town which is what makes it so cool, if you climb up to the remains of the city wall ruins the view is just mindblowing. We didn't go, the heat was impossible and the hike up in that heat…yeah no thank you, settled with the view from the church ground, which doesn't disappoint either.

Now listen to this crazy piece of info. Before the Romans meaning in the pre Roman era, the area of Piran, I suppose the cities weren't established by then since Piran is a fairly young city, was inhabited by Illyrian Histri tribes, they were farmers and fishermen and occassional hunters meaning pretty much Vikings. Let my have my fun will you. They were Slavic Vikings and that's that lol. BUT! The crazy part? There were pirates in the area who disrupted Roman trade once Romans started to settle in the northern Adriatic. Like, I'm sorry but my mind was completely blown with that info, all I saw in my head was Johnny Depp in that Jack Sparrow costume, tripping down the main pier drinking rum, talking to seagulls. Lol. Wild imagination I know.

The city has a rich history, from Romans to the Venetian Republic between 1283 to 1797,  you can still see some remains of their architectural influence on so called ''Venetian house''. Pirate assaults and actually enemy attacks from Republic of Genoa (makes sense we're neighbors) were succesfully repelled during the middle ages. In 1558 some sort of disease hit Piran, refered to as simple as pestilence, my first idea is a Dutch band when you say that word lol. But really I believe Pestilence is one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? Anyone having some weird Deja Vu flashbacks or is that just me? It was a nasty pandemic it killed over two thirds of the entire population. The rich history goes on and on though, it was part of the Austrian Empire, and later the Napoleonic Empire but what might be most fascinating is that on February 22nd 1812 the ''Battle of Pirano'' was fought beween two ships. A British one and a French one.  God damn Brits won, capturing the French Rivoli on it's maiden voyage and forced her to surrended. Assholes just saying. This sea battle is obviously not the biggest and not the most significant but fascinating to me because it's the only one ever faught in our waters.

After the first world war, together with Trieste and really all of Istra, Piran was written to Italy. Can we return to that asshole thing? Because this was a shitty thing to do. And the reason why Trieste today though rightfully ours (look at the map) is not in fact ours. In 1954 Piran was returned to us, annexed to Yugoslavia by the London Memorandum which Yugoslavia and Italy signed together. Though I believe a lot of people in Piran actually emigrated to Italy then rather toan staying in ''socialist'' Yugoslavia. Like, life in YU was that bad. Would trade it for my current life in a heartbeat no joke.

Now the most important and probably my favourite part of Pirano is that in October 2010 Slovenia was the first former ''communist'' EU country to elect a black mayor. Peter Bossman who is from Ghana I believe. I'm sorry but that is so cool, rather than some parts of this country who are racist beyond belief, they elect a black mayor. Amazing.

Of course the not so pretty parts of the place are the fact that Slovenia and Croatia can't settle on the waters and water border in the Gulf of Pirano. There's been border disputes going on for years and it doesn't look like this will ever settle. Started in 1991 when Slovenia became independent and we're still going on today. Rather boring if you ask me and completely stupid given how much coast line Croatia has. But no has to be greedy has to want the little tiny piece we got.

Another fun fact is that Pirano is the birthplace of the famous violinist (no not David Garrett sadly) and composer Giuseppe Tartini. He clearly left a huge mark on shaping the entire city since today his role is more than obvious in the main square, named after him the ''Tartini Square''. It's the most prominent sight. And a really gorgeous one too. A huge statue of him was build on the 200th anniversary of his birth, which is what 130 or so years ago. The bronze statue that is in the middle od the square was created by a Venetian artist Antonio Dal Zotto. Less known but I know some of y'all heard of him is Cesare Dell'Acqua, a painter, who was also born here.

When I said these towns are near by and so close, I meant it, you can literally walk the distance if you want to. Say in Piran there's a nearby town called Fiesa which is connected to Pirano with a beach side promenade and it's actually really nice to walk along. Koper though is a bit further away but there are endless buses and real cheap too. What remains in this post of coastal cities is Portorose or in our language Portorož. I joke all the time calling it Slovenian Monaco, it's full of prestigious hotels like Adlon Kempinski and other spa's and resorts. Rich people destination believe me. It's today one of the best and most fancy seaside resorts in the Adriatic along with Grado, Lido and Abbazia. Believe me though out of those, I much rather stay home. Much nicer. Kempinski though, the hotel, bought our old run down Hotel Palace, it was always fancy but not doing so well before it was bought, today it's the finest hotel between Venice and Dubrovnik. How about that?

The name Portorose literally means ''Port of roses'' another romantic thing I like. Though if you ask cynical Slovenians you'll see they call it ''Portobeton'' which means port of concrete. Lol. Funny. Not that far off either. I mean yeah there's massive hotels, casinos and all kinds of restaurants and very little ''unruined'' coast line. They do have a beach that's my favourite to swim though and I mean, I do love coffee at the Kempinski…or the pizza place right across the street. One of the most important events though in Portorose is Internautica, an international boat show (went once, nearly lost my god damn eyes, those boats jesus christ) which usually has well over 400 exhibitors and 40 000 plus visitors. The problem is just that their market is usually, very luxury yachts. Hah. I mean that's kinda obvious from a quick walk around the Marina Portorose, nothing not fancy ''parked'' there.

What Portorose for me at least lacks is the ''soul'' the soul that other coastal cities here have, the run down houses, the typical architecture, narrow streets where you can reach out and touch houses on each side with your hands. It's too new, too flashy, too bright if you know what I mean. You can of course take a little hike up the hills and enjoy the green parts the rocky parts and the nice views, but if you're like me then head over to Bernardin beach (part of the hotel complex Bernardin) and enjoy. Water in Slovenia is as I said very clean but also very warm. Early September and it's still 25 C. Beaches also are mostly public, you only pay for say umbrellas or a deckchair (god knows where my mind is right now, almost wrote dickchair, hah) which is something I never really do because, the hell do you need one for, I spend 90% of the time at the beach swimming anyways.

There's that. I mean all the gorgeous lunch views, amazing food, nice people, beautiful nature, amazing sea, rich history, so much to do you literally can not be bored, beautiful weather even after main tourist season…it makes me feel stupid for my need to always ''explore the world'' there's so much of the world and so much beauty right here at home. And it's ridiculous because I do honestly love my home (don't ask again after about a week or so when gloomy gray weather and rude people make me wanna go on a murder spree) it's just the politics that's rotten. What else is new. I am enough of a patriot though to honestly say I would miss this place terribly should I ever leave. I love my ''Tailgate towns'' too much.

''it's a tailgate town, just a needle on a map dot route, hundred miles from the highway sound, in the middle of nowhere. Where time came and went, flying by like a new Corvette, oh but we ain't left it yet…''

P.S. How cool is the beach full of nothing but sea shells. There aint one just like it anywhere on this planet. Pretty awesome.

La Serenissima.

You know what is another thing I love? Hard rock. As in Hard rock cafe. If there's one in the city I'm in…that's where you'll find me. I've seen quite a lot of them, my fave so far being the one in Rome.  Nothing quite as cool as their ceiling painting with angels sporting guitars and other instruments. Classic art meets hard rock and that's super badass. Either way, I only just recently started collecting their charms on a charm bracelet. I always loved the concept of charm bracelets. Got one filled with all kinds of crazy charms but this one is a say, fresh start. Meant for traveling only. It was a gift really. In 2018. I guess I shouldn't complain, 3 charms in 2 years is better than most people get. I suppose I'm sulking because this year I was supposed to add on Berlin and maybe, just maybe if I was lucky Budapest. And that didn't happen because Corona fucked up my life. Well mine and about (enter number of earthlings) others.

I suppose we were all doing that ''vacation close to home'' thing this year. Seriously though, I knew I live in a beautiful country but I had no idea just how beautiful it really is, I haven't seen the places I've seen this year in a while and just, wow. There aint no place like home right? And my home really is amazing, but more on that in another post next week. This week, something else. Because I decided on vacation close to home, well actually at home, and being so close to Italy as we are, I completely unexpected got to add Venice to my charm bracelet this year.

Y'all a bit closer to me know I've been obsessed, wanting to see Venice for years and years and never got the chance. I found it so absurd. I've seen entire Italy but never been to Venice which is closest to me. I mean who goes to Sicily, Naples, Palermo but never sees Venice? Crazy. I've been nagging everyone at home for years. ''I wanna go see Venice, I wanna go see Venice''. I've been called annoying for it, and I've been told I'll be disappointed because it aint ''all that''. My entire family already saw Venice mind you. I was the only poor sucker left out. Let me tell you something. I wasn't disappointed one bit. Even if Corona madness really is madness and 2 hours of train rides with no AC and 30+ weather…well that is hell, but shit that first moment, when the train arrives in Venice, the canals, the water, looking as if it's floating on air. It's magic.

I didn't have that much time, hours only. Well a day let's say. It was enough though, for now. Like a day trip. Aren't those the best? I should do this more often. Hours were good enough for the most important things, Piazza San Marco, the cathedral, Palazzo Ducale, Ponte Rialto, a walk down the Grand canal, a little quick shopping and of course a must the Hard rock, both store and cafe.

We took the time to see the Palazzo Ducale inside. If you're there, it's a muss, expensive as hell, I think 20 eu but it's well worth it. The palazzo as you will know is the former residence and the seat of Venetian government. Today it's the very symbol of Venice, I mean, what do you think when you think of Venice? Canals? Sure, San Marco? Most likely. But also Palazzo Ducale. On top of it all, it's a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Gorgeous. Amazing. Beautiful. And the inside? Jesus fucking christ. All the gold, and paintings, oh dear god. We had a guide that told us what the paintings mean, what each room means, how the Venetian government worked in the first place and why it was so much better than it is today (it really was believe me).

And of course while talking about the palace we can't go pass Casanova. Y'all seen the movie right? Heath Ledger was and is one of my fave actors. Blonde. Go figure. I've seen the movie countless of times. You know how the story goes right? About the poet and womanizer? Well aparently he was the only one who managed to escape from the prison next to the palace. What happened was that the night before a party was on in the palace and he managed to sneak out of the prison and into the palace, dressed as a gentleman, one of the staff asked him how can they help him, assuming he was one of the party guests who got drunk and stay the night. And what did Casanova say? ''just show me the way out''. Can you imagine just how both brilliant and cocky that is?

We also crossed the famouse ''Bridge of sighs'', tried to make the guide say the name of the bridge in my language, it was hysterical. It's a difficult word and he gave up. Hah. Welcome to my life I'd say. I guess the bridge got this ''romantic'' sorta title due to people having one last look at the view before being jailed, while the jailers and others simply called it ''prison bridge''. Kills all the romance doesn't it?

Okay but one piece of info for my girls reading this…do you have any idea how ridiculously sexy the gondoliers are? I mean seriously! Tattooed, and those perfectly styled beards and hair. They look insane, like they stepped right out of a Milan fashion show or a style magazine. Believe me I had trouble breathing more than on one occassion.

Venice is such an amazing city to put the fucking map and the god damn phone apps away and just vander. Get a little lost. No worries all streets eventually lead to the same place, if not the people (the sexy gondoliers) are so sweet and will no problem show you the way. Venice is not that big you can walk the entire city in a few hours, counting that you get lost several times, hah, but really, that's the best part, get lost and explore, you never know what's waiting behind the next corner. There's a lot of tiny stores and tiny cafes which are not that expensive and just perfect for a quick stop to have a coffee or some Aperol (I only love to drink it in Italy because I swear only they know how to do it right), and the prices (if it's not the San Marco Piazza of course) aren't even that high.

What I enjoyed during this visit most is the fact that there were hardly any tourists. Corona aint bad for everything it seems. Usually, on any normal day, Venice is packed, full of tourists on every corner. And if there's one thing that I just can not stomach is American tourists acting like they own the place (I apologise to Americans reading this but jesus they annoyed me in Rome). So emptier streets, no waiting lists in front of sights, though sad is in a way much better.

What I also can't get over is the fact that this city is so strong and yet so flexible on wooden beams. Like it's just wood, in the water, holding up the entire city. How crazy is that? I mean we've all heard that they're sinking and that the world is looking for a solution. How about no cruise ships near Venice? That would be a great start, though I believe now since Corona happened they're no longer allowed. Y'all wanna guess where they got the wood to build Venice? Yeah that's right, in Slovenia. Just saying. Do you know any of the other names for Venice? Like, La Dominante, La Serenissima, Queen of the Adriatic, City of Water, City of Masks, City of Bridges, The floating city, City of Canals. Beautiful aint it? Another beautiful thing must be the Carnieval, which this year didn't happen of course but I can just imagine. I've seen pictures of course, but that probably doesn't come close to reality. All the masks, all the clothes, all the colors and the beautiful city as the backdrop for pictures. I get goose bumps just thinking about it.

Well Venice was and still is today a major cultural centre, and has been ranked many times as the most beautiful city in the world. Times online called it one of Europe's most romantic cities. True. So romantic. So pretty. The architecture, the artwork, the history. Everything combined. Nothing but pure beauty and to be honest, despite it all, Corona fucking up my summer, being home for vacation and only getting a few hours in Venice, I feel blessed for getting some time to spend there at all. It was gorgeous and so worth it. If only I could turn back time and get lost on those streets again. Feels so surreal to be back home, thrown back in the usual routines and stress. God I hate that. But I guess no matter how badly I'd wish it, I can't live in vacation mode forever. I can relive it for a quick moment though while typing these words and editing some pictures. Speaking of pictures, enjoy these and come back next week for an even better post on my own country. It's even more beautiful than Italy I promise cough patriot cough. Hah.

''Bite me''

There will be spoilers ahead. Consider yourself warned.

I can't believe I bought the third basically same version of a book. *SIGH*. First it was Twilight, then Life and death which is basically a Twilight reimagined, but same shit. And now Midnight sun which is just Twilight from a different point of view.

Y'all probably know I have a million and one problem with Stephanie Meyer these days. Starting with her abuse of the Native Americans to the accusations of plagiarism. Fake or not I don't know. It's horrible you know, you got these stories. Twilight saga, Harry Potter, Shadowhunters. Stories you love, book worlds you love to get lost in when the real world sucks too much to handle. And then you learn that all those authors that gave us those worlds, those masterpieces, are all fucking assholes. I mean one shouldn't let that ruin the story…I still love Twilight, I still love Harry Potter, they're stories I grew up with but, you can't help it, having them sort of tarnished…it sucks.

( Midnight Sun / Stephenie Meyer / Young adult, fantasy, romance novel / )

All of that is enough to turn me off of Stephanie Meyer, not wanting to buy more books, merch, give her more money…but how could I not get Midnight sun when I've waited for 13 years to get my hands on it. We all wanted to hear what Twilight is like from Edwards point of view. And just two or three chapters in I was surprised just how much and how many times he wanted to kill her. That could of been a whole different story from the get go, the romantic, perfect Edward going on a murder spree. Don't get me wrong, I was team Edward just like everyone else, swooning over the seemingly perfect boy who speaks like he's from a different century (well he is) and drives a Volvo (stupid shiny Volvo owner), but to be honest I always prefered Carlisle, blond, older, perfect…

Moving on. Midnight sun therefore is the same story told from a different point of view. Edwards. And what does he have to say? Fucking too much let me tell you that. More than 700 pages too much. Story stays unchanged, lines of conversation are the same, obviously. I hear people complaining about that but what did you expect, really? It's the same story! This is much better though, I always found Bella sort of bland, uninteresting (sorry, Ed) and seeing this story through his eyes is much better purely because it gives you some inside into the eternal struggle, pain, doubt, family dynamics, into why Edward is the way he is. Complex. Moody. Brooding. I would love to get Carlisle or Alices perspective though (but don't you dare Meyer, three same books are absolutely enough) maybe on some history, their lives before Twilight. A love story between Carlisle and Esme. That would kill me. I'd die on the spot. My favourite couple right there.

Excuse the crappy photo quality, it's an old drawing, and I can't for the love of me find it to take a better photo. It's still one of my favourites though. Even if today, if I redraw, I could probably do much better...maybe I should test that theory in the future...

Has anyone thought about how bizarre it is that after 13 years this book is released now, during a worldwide pandemic, when the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918 is what killed Edward? I mean she couldn't plan it obviously but it's still funny how some things fall into place like that.

Of course if you're after the romance, the undying forever love you wont be disappointed, Edwards obsession with Bella, the only and the most beautiful woman on the planet, ''the one that made his dead frozen heart beat again'' (ugh gag me with a spoon) there's plenty of that there too.  But all his internal monologue how she should stay away, how he should of let her go, how he's no good for her, blah blah blah, it gets boring. We get it, you see her as dinner. Not gonna lie the watching her sleep part? A little creepy dude. Lay that shit off.

What I more than enjoyed though was the dynamic between Alice and Edward, always working together to keep the clumsy mess that is Bella away from harm, which believe me isn't an easy task. It's like she's just asking for it, any and all kind of danger, trust Bella to find it.

I also loved a more personal view into other people's minds in the book through Edwards abilities. I was hardly surprised seeing how some were just superficial, sex, prom, money, that freak Cullen, or the undying love and support Edward got from his adoptive parents. Hardly a shock there. But what I enjoyed was the interactions between Edward and Emmett, it give a better view into their brotherly relationship, the fact that Emmett calls him ''kid'' is just endearing.

Generally though, I can't say I'm impressed with her style of writing (Meyer is no Hemingway after all) the quote on midnight sun in the book is just making you cringe and the entire book sort of reads like fan fiction, though well not going to lie that I have in fact read better fan fiction. What the hell do you think I do all those sleepless nights? Well, besides sketching. I don't know what it is with artists and their talent only working at night. Back to the point. The book was dedicated to the fans. That's kinda obvious because well, who besides the fans will read it?

What bugs me is that she had the chance to mature, to make the book more mature, as her readers matured, but she didn't. And what really fucking pissed me off were Edwards fantasies about killing the Quileute tribe. I get it, creppy obsessed Edward just felt that way, BUT, given how she treated them in the past, how she fucked them over, this was just tastless and the book could do without it.

It seems to me…you know…after so many years of no release and excuses, such as it wasn't released because it would seem like competition with E.L. James and her male point of view ''Gray'' novel (Cmon seriously? That's just bullshit, can't really compare porn with uptight Edward huh?) that this is just a quick money grab. After one million copies sold just in the first week it's not far off either is it. I guess the book, the story, had the potential to be a million times better. So all in all I guess it's a bit disappointing. Waiting for so many years…I don't know you'd expect something else.

All that said, it doesn't change that my Twihard heart exploded into rainbows, unicorns and that glitter Edward is made of when I heard that the book is finally getting released. And it doesn't change the nostalgia and reviving my Cullen crush that happened while reading this book. Reading it felt like reconecting with an old friend. Like rekindling a relationship with an old lover. Falling back in love with Edward and the Cullens felt as easy as breathing. And yes I did hyperventilate for good five minutes when picking this book up for the first time. Holy hell.

So safe to say, I enjoyed it a lot, despite the negative parts I mentioned above. It was a lot that I wished for and a lot that I hoped for. And despite it having so many pages, I finished it all too quick. Here's to re reading the entire series because that seems to be in order.

So there's that, enough spoilers spilled I believe, let me just wish, to all my readers starting school tomorrow, good luck, I know it will be a whole new world, not only because it's been almost a year but because this ''new normal'' is far from actually normal.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to satisfy my ''thirst'' with a little smutty Carlisle fan fic. Hey don't judge, some read 50 shades of (fucked up) Grey and some read kinky fanfiction. So cheers, have a good week. Or at least, lets survive the week.

Watch out for the seas of hatred and sin or all us people forget what we've been.

You know how dominated the music scene is by American and British artists? How little credit bands from other countries get? And I've seen and met so many different bands from all over the world who were talented and in so many ways so much better than so many US and UK bands. Like say Scorpions? Amazing. And Rammstein? Holy shit! And how about Scandinavia? They have all the best bands. Like Volbeat, Nightwish, Amon Amarth, In flames, Europe, Opeth, Ghost, Apocalyptica, HIM, Lordi,…to name just a few. Finland per example is the best country for heavy metal and hard rock music, they play it on all commercial radios over there, while here I could burst out in tears when I hear Guns N' Roses on our radio stations.

One of such in my opinion underrated bands are German Helloween. They're a power metal band from Hamburg. Founded in the 80's (1984) actually by members of Iron fist and Gentry. The original lineup released the ''Keeper of the Seven Keys'' together which made them the heavy metal band worth noticing and actually helped create the sub genre ''power metal'' which just didn't exist before. The singer left after unfortinally so the second part of Keeper is with a different singer.

Story goes on simmilar as it does with Skid row. Skid were a massive band, no wonder because you just can't beat Bach vocals. That man. Shit. I get shivers just thinking about those screams in Monkey business or the emotional way he sings In a darkened room, but that's besides the point, first two Skid albums were amazing, smashing hits, then Bach left or was kicked out or whatever happened, it's unclear but that was a nail in the coffin because no albums that followed were as good. Same with Helloween. First two albums without Hansen the original singer, Pink bubbles go Ape and Chameleon were complete failures both commercially and critically, which in turn caused more tension with the band members and more lineup changes.

See I don't get it. I get artistic difference and I get that people just can't get along but a band should be like a job. I mean it's great when musicians are best friends and they hang out together and stuff but if not…why not grit your teeth and get on with it? Look at the Stones, I mean Mick and Keith never liked eachother but that never affected the band one bit. They stayed together and made so much good music. Isn't it such a crying shame really? Skid Row could be such a massive band and they could make so much amazing music. Same as GN'R. I thank the lord each day they're back together…well sorta. I aint gonna be happy till I see Steven and Izzy as well.

So you can imagine the buzz when Helloween announced in 2014 that two original members were rejoining the band. The ''Pumpkins united'' world tour ended up being the biggest tour in the band's history, spanning over 14 months and consisting of 69 shows, and also a live album plus DVD.

I know it makes no sense to review part II before part I. But I don't actually have part I and I rather like this one…

I've read that both Keeper albums were actually supposed to be one double album, which makes it logical why part II feels like it's a continiuation of something. Carrying on something that was left of somewhere. I never actually listened to part I but this is actually a brilliant idea, to do two albums and connect them somehow. You know like SIXX AM did? The dammned and the blessed albums? Brilliant idea.

This album has such amazing harmonies, fast mindblowing riffs, bitching bass and hair raising vocals. Okay so it may not be the same singer but let me tell you something, the album is just as great.

Can we just talk about the cover for a second? Both albums have such great covers. I really love cover art that's not photography but painted art. Like old movie posters. Ever saw those? So great and so artistic. I guess the artist in me appreciates this so much more. I  mean everyone can take a picture, photoshop the hell out of it and slap it on the front page, but it takes a hell of a lot more effort to actually create a piece of art like these two covers are. And as well their other covers, I really like ''Better than raw'' it's oh my god amazing, ''The time of the oath'' which actually reminds of Keeper part I a lot and ''Metal jukebox''. Super creative and I'm getting them all at some point (when grown up, rich and famous lol) for the artistic value alone.  Some such covers are also Danger Danger self titled album and ''Screw it!'' which I also want both. Great band, great music, perfect covers. What did you expect really, boys with long blond hair in leather. I'm predictable. Lol. And super carried away as per usual.

Keeper of the seven keys Part II was the third studio album, released in 1988. It was received very well, and actually went gold in Germany (well that's not that much of a surprise). The two songs that probably everyone knows on this album are ''Dr. Stein'' and ''I want out''. First one has this long solo that's really kinda dark and kinda bluesy, which doesn't sound like anything really on this album also if you pay attention you'll hear the organ. ''I want out'' on the other hand was and still is the bands most famous song it has so many remakes as well, by Gamma Ray (which is funny considering that that's the very band founded by Kai Hansen after leaving Helloween. Mindboggling.) and also LORD and Sonata Arctica.

Loudwire also named this album as number one on their ''top 25 power metal albums of all time'' that is a big deal if you ask me. You can also find it on ''the 10 essential power metal albums'' by Metal Hammer. That makes it significant for the power metal scene as I said. Maybe they're the Beatles to some modern power metal bands like Beast in black (amazing band, drop what you're doing and go listen).

You can hear how polished the sound is on this album. Fresh. Enjoyable. Perfect. Yes it might sound a bit ''80's-ish'' but that doesn't change the clear harmonies between the guitars the excellent bass job or Kiske's incredible voice. Sometimes people say that albums that go on over 40 or 45 minutes get boring. This one is just under 55 minutes and let me tell you, it's not boring for a second. No filler songs no dull moment. Instead of complaining y'all should be happy to get a few extra minutes of a great album. An extra song or two. How perfect is that?

I'm not going to rant forever, this isn't Guns N' Roses or Springsteen who I love a bit too much, but seriously, all that blond hair and tight clothes. Just too sexy. I'm shallow. I'd pick this up and listen to it due to their looks alone, never mind if they suck. Thankfully they don't, but you get the point.

So, there's that. Excuse me while I go get some air and possibly melt outside. Super hot as per usual. Thank god actually, been raining for far too long. Started to feel like the Amazonia not Europe. Have a great week y'all, don't let the Muggles get you down.
